Marlowe Sigal

Marlowe Sigal, 87, of Newton, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 4, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones. For years the beloved husband of Elise (Cunin). Devoted father of Erica Sigal and Andrew Sigal. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, and raised in Easton, PA, Marlowe spent his adult life in Boston and Newton, where he was a pillar of the community. He was a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School. Marlowe served our nation as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He was the founder of Solutek Corp., in Roxbury, MA. He was the President of this thriving business for over 50 years, continuing until just days before his death. He was a major figure in the Newmarket Business Association, an organization committed to the economic growth and development of that area of Boston. As a result of his lifelong interest in the preservation of historic buildings, he was central to the restoration of the Shirley-Eustis House, a U.S. National Historical Landmark and creation of the Shirley-Eustis House Association. He was internationally regarded as an expert on the study, preservation, and restoration of antique musical instruments. He sat on the boards of numerous organizations devoted to the preservation of musical instruments and the performance of classical music, including the National Music Museum. He played saxophone in the Harvard Marching Band, marching every year for 66 years without exception, a record. He performed and participated in the musical community up until the time of his death. Services will be held at Temple Shalom of Newton, 175 Temple St., West Newton on Thursday, May 10, starting at 11am. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut St., Newton Center. Memorial observance immediately following at Temple Shalom of Newton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made to the museum or music-related charity of your choice.
