Henry W. Gilmore of West Newton, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2010. five nieces and nephews. Henry was a 1948 graduate of Boston University, he was also a Veteran of two periods of active duty, with the Army Air Corps in World War II in which he flew 37 combat sorties in the European Theater of Operations as a Radar Navigator and Navigator Bombardier of B 17's. He was recalled by the Air Force for 17 months on B 29's during the Korean Conflict as a Radar Navigator and retired as a 1st Lieutenant. A member of the American Legion and Manager of the West Newton Colonels Baseball team in the Newton Twilight League during the late 1940s and early 50s. Henry was employed by Commercial Union Insurance Company as a Reinsurance Facility Technical Specialist for over 40 years before retiring in 1989. Funeral from the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St., (Route 16), West Newton, was Friday, Sept. 24, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bernard's Church, West Newton, at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours were Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. Interment was in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
