Barbara Ann Pennick

Barbara Ann (Fowler) Pennick, an Andover native and long time resident, passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2011. She was 78. The youngest daughter of the late Millie and Charlie Fowler of Andover, Mrs. Pennick grew up in Shawsheen Village where she enjoyed dancing at the Crystal Ballroom, ice skating along the Shawsheen River, and socializing at the soda fountain at the Andover Spa up town. While attending Andover's Punchard High, Mrs. Pennick was the head majorette and proudly led the Punchard High School All-Girls Marching Band. Upon graduation in 1950, Mrs. Pennick moved to New York to pursue a modeling career, living at the renowned Barbizon Hotel for Woman in Manhattan. Mrs. Pennick would often return to Andover between modeling assignments, and during one visit she joined a girlfriend on a double date and met Joseph J. Pennick, a Holy Cross student. After graduation Mr. Pennick enlisted in the Marine Corps and Barbara and Joe were married. The newlyweds moved to California where Mr. Pennick was assigned to Camp Pendleton in Oceanside and had their first child, a son Jay. The Pennicks moved back to Andover after Mr. Pennick returned to civilian life in the late 1950s and had two more children, daughter's Lisa and Buffy. Mrs. Pennick was active in her children's school activities, the PTA, Cub Scouts, Girls Scouts and various sports and cheerleading teams. Mrs. Pennick worked for over 25 years as an Office Manager for Queechee Lakes Association, Altman & Esecson, and Agfa. Upon retirement she continued to work as a Sales Associate at Talbots for six years. The most important thing to Mrs. Pennick's world were her children and her three grandchildren Bailey, Kane and Julia who affectionately called her "Mimi". She filled their lives with her love of entertaining and music, especially the sounds of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. Mrs. Pennick was beautiful, inside and out. Mrs. Pennick is predeceased by her parents, her sister Jean F. Kirkpatrick, and Joseph J. Pennick. She is survived by her son Jay Pennick and his wife Leslie and their daughters, Bailey and Julia; her daughter Lisa and her husband Sandy Norton; and her daughter Barbara Jean (Buffy) Pennick and her son Kane Stanton. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover on Thursday, May 26, at 10 a.m. Burial to follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover. Relatives and friends respectfully to attend. In lieu of flowers donations would gratefully be accepted to the Barbara Fowler Pennick Band Award to benefit the Andover High School Marching Band; Sovereign Bank, 71 Main St., Andover, MA 01810.
