Irene M. (Akesson) Stoughton, age 81 years, of Norton, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Richard P. Stoughton Jr. Born Saturday, June 4, 1932, in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Martha (Carlson) Akesson. Irene was a 1950 graduate of Brockton High School and a graduate of Quincy Community College. She was a longtime resident of Brockton and had worked as a sales clerk at Edgars Department Store in Brockton and later worked as a nurse's aide for the Brockton Visiting Nurses. She was a member of the Brockton Valkyriens and enjoyed quilting, baking and painting landscapes. She is survived by a son, Mark Stoughton and his wife Tanya Willow of Norton; two grandchildren, Chad and Arianna Stoughton; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Bertil Akesson. A funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at 9 a.m. in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 647 Main St., Brockton.
