Walter Bennett Russell, age 90 years, died in the Norwood Hospital in Norwood, on Sunday, December 22, 2013. Born in Kentville, Nova Scotia, Canada on June 27, 1923, he was the son of the late Percy and Nellie (Joudry) Russell. He graduated from Norwood High School with the class of 1941. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was discharged in 1946 as a Sergeant after serving in the European Theatre of Operations. He has been a resident of East Walpole, Massachusetts since 1950. Mr. Russell owned and operated Ben Russell Painting Contractors in East Walpole for 40 years. He retired in 1988. He enjoyed golfing, bird carving, woodworking, and artistic painting. He loved to travel and liked spending his summers on Cape Cod. Most of all, he will be remembered as a family man, who loved spending time with his grandchildren. Beloved husband of the late Barbara E. (White) Russell Loving father of W. Ben Russell, Jr of Kennebunk, ME, Bruce S. and his wife Colleen Russell of Hanover, MA. Cherished grandfather of Tricia, Suzanne, Christopher, Lauren, Jenna , and Eric. Great grandfather of Elizabeth, Robert, and Tinlee. Brother of Bernice Wenstrom of Norwood, and the late Leona Pascoe. Dear friend of Podgie Weissent. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the memorial service that will be held In the Union Congregational Church 55 Rhoades Avenue in East Walpole on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM.
