John C. Gronberg Obituary
John Jack C. Gronberg, 68, of Pembroke, MA and Marco Island, Fla., passed away on Aug. 21, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Jeannette (Monahan) Gronberg. He is survived by his two devoted children, Carl Bruce and his wife Julia of Ridgefield, Conn. , Timothy Bruce and his wife Laura of Kingston; 4 cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Emma, Dennis, and Connor Bruce; a loving sister Dianne Figlioli and his brother Richard Bryant. He was predeceased by his sister Janice Lownsdale. He leaves behind many treasured nieces and nephews. Jack was born in Boston on Sept. 19, 1945, son of the late Chester E. Gronberg and Anna (Gruberski) Bryant. He was a graduate of Silver Lake Regional High School. Jack was a proud U.S. Army Veteran who served in Korea during the Vietnam War. He started his career as a telephone technician with New England Telephone in 1970 and retired from Verizon Communications after 32 years in 2003. Following his retirement he was employed at Black Rock Country Club in the golf area, doing something he loved. Jack enjoyed gardening, golfing, playing cards, traveling, spending his winters on Marco Island, and especially loved spending his time with family and friends. Visiting hours was in the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 551 Washington Street, Hanover on Sunday, Aug. 24, from 2 - 5 p.m. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, Aug 25, at 9 a.m. at St. Thecla Church, 145 Washington St., in No. Pembroke, MA. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery in Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made in memory of John Gronberg to fund small cell lung cancer research to the Massachusetts General Hospital, 100 Cambridge Street, Suite 1310, Boston, MA 02114.
