Madeleine Jean (LaForest) Butterfield, age 92, of Plymouth, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on June 11th. She was the devoted wife of the late Ronald W. Butterfield. Born in New Bedford, MA on December 5, 1925 along with her twin brother Raymond, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Lillian (Jean) LaForest. Madeleine was educated in New Bedford, MA, as well as Plymouth High School, from where she graduated in 1944. She was a homemaker for most of her life raising her seven daughters. Madeleine was the matriarch of the family, always caring for others and promoting peace and kindness to all she knew. In earlier years she was a member of the St. Peters Womens Guild. She was an active daily parishioner at St. Peters Church for over 65 years, later becoming active as a dedicated parishioner of St. Bonaventures Church in Manomet. Madeleine was the loving mother of Carolyn Matinzi and her husband Paul of Dade City, Florida, Jeanne Francisco and her husband Charles of Marthas Vineyard and Harvard, MA, Jennifer Butterfield and Dr. Dominic Zazzarino of Plymouth, Deborah Sandberg and her husband Stevan of Park Ridge, NJ, Nan Butterfield of Plymouth, Madeleine Bass and her husband Dr. James Bass of East Greenwich RI, and Amy Butterfield of Viera, FL. She was the beloved grandmother of 22 and great-grandmother of 17. She was the loving sister of Paulette dAvignon and the late Gerard dAvignon of Manchester, CT, Claire Butterfield and the late Gordon Butterfield of Verona, VA, and Joan Lougee and the late Edwin Lougee of Kingston, formerly of Duxbury. She also leaves her sister-in-law Nancy LaForest of Plymouth. She was predeceased by her siblings; Leonard J. LaForest and his wife Olga of Marshfield, Paul L. LaForest and his wife Elizabeth Betty of New Bedford, Raymond LaForest of Kingston and Plymouth , Gabriel Champagne and her husband Raymond of New Bedford, Theresa Cartmell and her husband Robert of Plymouth. She will be fondly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends may call at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth on Thursday, June 14th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral will take place on Friday, June 15th at 9:00 a.m. from the Cartmell Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bonaventures Church, 801 State Rd., Plymouth (Manomet). Interment will be in the Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth. Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Bonaventures Church, P.O. Box 996, Manomet, MA 02345. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out. I am so honored to have had the pleasure of meeting her and her husband back in the early years of the cafe. She reminded me of my grandma who passed away when I was a young teen. She always made me smile. So very sorry for your loss
