Barbara Ellen (Sykes) Donoghue, age 70, died peacefully at her home in Carver on November 20, 2012, lovingly surrounded by her family. She was the devoted wife of Richard C. Donoghue, Sr. Born in Boston, MA on July 21, 1942, Barbara was a daughter of the late Harry L. and Alice Sykes. She was educated in Boston and was a graduate of Jeremiah E. Burke High School. She moved to Carver from Dorchester in 1976. Barbara had worked for many years as a medical secretary. She was employed by South Shore Hospital in Weymouth and later by Dr. Anders Martenson in Middleboro. Barbara loved listening to Elvis and baking for her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her genuine smile, a helping hand and best known for her "Barbara Brownies". Besides leaving her husband of 49 years, Barbara was the loving mother of Richard Donoghue Jr. and his wife Kathy of Carver, Kathleen Donoghue Murphy and her husband Edward of Plymouth, and Debra Donoghue Cadorette and her husband Richard of Kingston. She was the beloved sister of Carol Clements and Danny Sykes of Niverville, NY. She was the cherished Nana of 5 grandkids, Chelsea and Brandon Cadorette, Jarred and Amanda Donoghue and Andrew Murphy. She was predeceased by her siblings James Sykes, Robert Sykes, Marie Dickie and Rochelle DeCaro. Visitation will take place on Sunday evening from 4 to 7 pm. At the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth . The funeral will take place on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. from the Cartmell Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peters Church in Plymouth at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth.
