George B. Madsen Jr., retired Plymouth Police Chief, age 81 years, of Plymouth (Manomet) died Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Boston Medical Center in Boston, following a brief illness. He is the husband of Dennette (Stahly) Madsen, and the son of the late George B. and Bernice (Smith) Madsen Sr. Born and raised in Boston, he was a graduate of Boston English High School, class of 1955, and Cape Cod Community College, where he studied criminal justice. He was a veteran of the United States Marines. George worked as a patrolman and detective for the Town of Plymouths Police Department, before being Chief of Police until his retirement in 1992, after 30 years of service. He was a Deputy for Plymouth County Sheriffs Department since 1995 and was the owner of Madsen Security Company. George enjoyed sports, especially baseball. He was one of the founders of Manomet Little League. He enjoyed being on a bowling league at Ryan Family Amusements in Bourne, and helping his wife Dennette with craft fairs. In recent years he enjoyed spending time during the winter in Groveland, Florida. Besides his wife Dennette, he is survived by his children Joanne Heres and her fianc Paul Goodick of Plymouth and Richard Madsen and his wife Heather of Westport, his sister Patricia Conant of Westfield, grandchildren Jamie Heres, James Heres, Nicole Wood and Kylie Madsen, great grandchildren, Tremaine Joseph, James Richard Heres Jr. and Baby Wood, and uncle of Tara Conant. He was the father of the late George B. Madsen III. His funeral will be held in the Second Church of Plymouth, 518 State Rd., Plymouth (Manomet) on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 10AM. Interment will be in Manomet Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visitation with the family will be held in the Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd., Plymouth (Manomet) on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 6-8PM.
