Harold Nathanson Obituary

Harold S. Nathanson of Brooksby Village in Peabody and formerly of Kingston, MA and Venice, Florida passed away on February 24. He was 94 years old. Born in Lynn, MA on September 11, 1916, son of Dr. Elias and Anna Nathanson, he attended Lynn Classical High School, Ohio State University, graduating from Boston University. Harold served in General Pattons Third Army in World War II. He was injured in the invasion at Utah Beach and thereafter commanded a division which advanced through France. Harold personally took down the Nazi flag from Luxembourg City Hall and was one of the first to enter the concentration camp at Dachau, where he took photographs which stand witness to the Holocaust. Harold had been owner of Pilgrim Drug Co. in Plymouth, MA for 35 years, and owner of several commercial real estate properties. He was past president and treasurer of Plymouth Country Club, past president of the Rotary Club of Plymouth, member of the Masonic Lodge, and Plymouth Chamber of Commerce as well as a director of a Plymouth Bank. He was an avid golfer. Harold is survived by Harriet, his loving wife of 63 years, his sister Shirley Cherry of Swampscott. He was devoted to his daughter Judith Nathanson and son-in-law Neil Onerheim of Andover, to his daughter Gail Nathanson and son-in-law Adam Levin of Hingham and to his granddaughter Hannah Levin. aunt harriet, judith and gail, i know that it has been awhile and i know that words cant really help at this time. but, i wanted you to know that i have been thinking about all the good times i had at your house with all of you when i was a kid and wanted to let you know that i am thinking of you!!!

Harriet, Gail, Judy, and family----I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I fondly remember times spent at your home on Center Hill Road when I used to babysit for you, Gail and Judy!
