Atty. John Penniman Ryan, Sr., age 94, died on Sept. 14, 2013 at Wingate at Silver Lake in Kingston. He was the devoted husband of the late Julia May Judy (Kierstead) Ryan. Mr. Ryan was born in Plymouth, MA on March 24, 1919, son of the late Thomas F. and Gertrude A. (Penniman) Ryan. He was an educated man, graduating from Plymouth High School, Class of 1937 and Boston University School of Law. He was a practicing Attorney in Plymouth for 45 years, retiring in 1977. He proudly served un the US Army during World War II. Mr. Ryan was a member of the Cold Spring Athletic Club, the American Legion Post #40, the American Bar Association and was the Past Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O.E. Atty. Ryan was well known in the Plymouth area for his kind demeanor and professionalism and was an asset to the community he so dearly loved. He will be fondly missed by the many lives he touched. John was the loving father of John P. Ryan Jr., Nancy J. Chandler, Sheila G. May and Anne F. Martin, all of Plymouth. He was the beloved brother of Eleanor Tarantino and the late Frances Rapoza. He was the cherished grandfather of 9, and is also survived by numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Visiting hours were held at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013 from the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peters Church, 84 Court St., Plymouth, at 10 a.m. Donations in Johns memory may be made to the St. Peters Church Renovation Fund.
