Martha L. Holmes Obituary
Martha L. Holmes, 90, passed away on a May 23, 2018. She is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, George A. Holmes of Carver; sister, Shirley (Thomas) Barengo; son, Thomas George Holmes, his wife Janet (Nickerson) Holmes; and son, Kenneth Todd Holmes, his wife Jean Diane (Poirier) Holmes; granddaughters, Rebecca Amy Holmes, Jessica Abigail (Holmes) Zuppe and husband Joseph Zuppe; grandson, Ryan Christopher Holmes and his wife Andrea (Caruso) Holmes; grandson, Andrew Tyler Holmes, all of Plymouth; granddaughter, Katie Elizabeth (Holmes) Garbitt and husband John Garbitt of Yarmouth Port; great-grandsons, Benjerman Ryan Holmes, Brendan Anthony Holmes, Noah Jacob Garbitt, Adam Joseph Garbitt; great-granddaughters, Sofia Zuppe, Mila Zuppe, Victoria Kemp; and many nieces and nephews. Born in Carver, May 7, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James Eli Thomas and Sister Dorothy (Thayer) Thomas. George and Martha built their first home in 1949 in Plymouth on the Carver Plains (Rte. 44/178 Carver Rd.), where her and George raised the family. Her biggest joy in life was watching her family grill and being thankful that she could see their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Martha enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader, fantastic cook in a wonderful storyteller. She wrote stories of her childhood on the farm in Carver and of the times she spent with her brothers and sisters growing up during hard times and good times. She love to sew for her grandchildren making dolls and teddy bears. She worked as a kindergarten teacher/helper at the United Methodist Church in Plymouth for several years. She was also a Mayflower descendant. Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Carver, on Tuesday, May 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, at 10 a.m. at the Vine Hills Cemetery in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marthas name to the ALS Family Charitable Foundation, 1 Throwbridge Rd., Bourne, MA 02532.
