Mary P. Alexander Obituary
Mary Pauline Polly (Tibbetts) Alexander, age 90, died peacefully Oct. 10, 2013, at the Inn at Silver Lake in Kingston. She was the devoted wife of 62 years to Alphonse Stanley Alexander, who passed away in 2007. Born in Boston, Jan. 1, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Daniel F. and Alice E. (Morehouse) Tibbetts. She was educated in Boston and was a graduate of Boston Girls Latin High School. Polly had worked for many years as a service representative for both CNA Insurance Company and the John Hancock Bank and Trust until her retirement in 1988. She and her husband Al were residents of Quincy for 60 years. They were members of St. John the Baptist Parish in Quincy and their five children all attended St. John's Elementary School. Polly and Al were devoted to each other and did everything together. They especially enjoyed gardening, but made time every day to take a long walk even when well into their 80s. Polly was an avid reader, loved doing crosswords, was a talented knitter, and an exceptional cook, often using the fresh organic vegetables grown in their own gardens. Polly was strongly dedicated to her family. She is survived by daughters, Anita P. Alexander of Duxbury, Jill M. Belastock and her husband Thomas of Kingston; sons, Mark A. Alexander of Brockton, Dr. Stanley J. Alexander and his wife Jane Griffin of Hingham, and Christian M. Alexander of Boston; sister, Patricia Duest of Monponsett; sister-in-law, Regina Alexander of Braintree; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and also survived by 16 nieces and nephews; and 2 grand-dogs whom she loved dearly. The visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral was held Monday morning at 9:15 a.m. from the Cartmell Funeral Home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Marys Church, 313 Court St., Plymouth. Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Anthony Shrine, 100 Arch St., Boston, MA 02110, or the Cranberry Hospice, Inc., 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
