Winifred L. Avery Obituary
Winifred Lucille (Washburn) Avery, 86, of Plymouth died on February 21, 2018, at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born to Franklin and Hazel Washburn in Plymouth. She was a graduate of Pembroke High School class of 1949. She married her husband of 49 years the late George Avery on August 14, 1949 in Duxbury. She worked for many years at Petal Pusher Florist in Plymouth. Winifred was a talented artist and won several awards for her painting. Local history was of great interest to her and she spent many hours researching places in local towns as well as genealogy research and wrote and published many articles about Plymouth and Kingston. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Plymouth Lions Club, Federation of Old Plymouth Indian Tribes, Kingston Heritage Center Development Committee, and Kingston Historical Commission and volunteer at Plymouth Public Library History Room. She is survived by her daughters, Christy Hardwick and her husband Phil of Severance, CO, Leslie Gavett and her husband Brian of Plymouth, Samantha Harriman and her husband Gene of Middleboro and her son David Avery of Phoenix, AZ; her sister, Marylou Griffiths of The Villages, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Visiting hours on Monday February 26 from 4-7 p.m. in the Cartmell Funeral Home 150 Court St. Plymouth (Downtown). A private service will be held on Tuesday with burial in the Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury.
