I remember Joe from Plymouth-Carver H.S. as a wonderful person, a great classmate, and great class president. He was always friendly and willing to help. I can still picture him in a class, letter sweater, chino pants, and Pat Boone bucks for footwear (very " preppy"). Just a super guy. My condolences to the family. Jean Romano Kaplan

Gail,
The idea that Joe is no longer here is very sad. Many of us probably thought that Joey Sylva could never die (at least not before the rest of us ...). I knew him as a fellow teacher at PCHS and worked for him on the Islander and the other boats (or as Joe would say "...not a boat. It is a vessel..."). He was (and always will be) quite a colorful character and I'm pleased and grateful to have known him!
Get some rest... Gwenn (Seaver) Marchese (Albany,Oregon)

Gail,
The best summers of my life were spent with Joe, Evelyn and the crew. Sending my sympathies to you and the children

Gail, I'm very sorry to hear of Joe's passing, he was far too young. as you know I started working for him when I was 12 and did so until he sold the company when I was 19. He taught me so much about the boat business while also being a father figure at the same time. I hope you can find comfort in knowing that I now own and operate South Florida's #1 sightseeing cruise company and apply lessons learned from Joe every single day, I still tell our crew to "clean the restrooms like my mother is using it next" as Joe told me when I was 12! If there is an ocean in heaven, rest assured he and Joe Joyce are cruising on it together, telling stories, and laughing while they do.

Gail, I am sorry to hear of Joe's passing. It has been many years since I saw Joe but I think of him every time I see Bug Light in Plymouth Harbor.

gail: so sorry to hear of joe's passing. Much too young @ 66. Life just has it's way of giving us unexpected events, but leaves those behind with a wealth of memories. Will always remember the good times & challenges we encountered together. My best to you & your family. Don Correa, Plymouth, Mass.
