Ida (Adelaide) Sa Banzi, passed away July 28, 2013, at the age of 100. Ida was the widow of Roldo J. Banzi, who died in 1984. She is survived by her children, Clare A. Montanari and her husband, Gerald, of Plymouth and Ronald S. Banzi and his wife Phyllis of Virginia Beach, Va.; her grandchildren, Douglas Montanari and his wife Susan of Plymouth, Karin Montanari of Quincy, and Karlyn and her husband Asad of Weymouth; and her great-grandsons, Matthew, Eric and Adam Montanari, all of Plymouth. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of Maria (Sa) Britto, Angelina (Sa) Gould, Emily (Sa) Fortini, Peter Sa, Dorothy (Sa) Machado Andrews, William Sa and Aurora (Sa) Cates, all of whom pre-deceased her. Ida was born Nov. 15, 1912, in the Madeira Islands of Portugal, the daughter of the late John and Clara (Quintal) Sa. She came to America through Ellis Island in 1920 and became a United States citizen in 1945. Ida was a Plymouth resident for 93 of her 100 years, and lived in the same residence for 69 years. For many years she was a seamstress at the Ellis Curtain Factory from where she retired in 1983. Through the years she braided at least 63 rugs, some of which were given as gifts to members of her family. She also was a perfectionist at knitting and crafted many afghans, sweaters, hats and mittens. There was hardly a newborn known to her family who was not the recipient of one of these items, the most recent of which was sent to Australia. Another of her favorite hobbies was playing bingo with her friends. While still able to drive she was a daily communicant of St. Peter's Church in Plymouth. With a twinkle in her eye and a warm and generous spirit, Ida was beloved by all whose lives were fortunate enough to be touched by her. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Golden Living Center in Plymouth for their care and compassion. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, 10 Memorial Drive, Plymouth, MA. Arrangements by Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St.,Plymouth.
