Stephen Gray Obituary

Stephen Barrat Gray, age 88, died peacefully at Emeritus at Plymouth Beach, Sunday, June 22, 2014. Born in New York City (Manhattan), N.Y., Sept. 19, 1925, he was the son of the late Edmund C. and Faye L. (Church) Gray. He was educated in New York and was a graduate of Monroe High School in Rochester, Cornell University, and also attended Columbia University. Mr. Gray worked as a writer and editor in the computer industry for most of his life and was a member of the New York MENSA society and the Manhattan Collegiate Chorale. An avid musician, he enjoyed playing the piano, guitar and accordion. He was the founder of the Amateur Computer Society (ACS) 1966-1976 and published an international newsletter that allowed computer hobbyists to network with each other in building computers in their homes. A veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific and Korea. Mr. Gray is survived by his two daughters, Barbara Jane Gray of Boston and Elizabeth A. Gray-Guimaraes of Carver; two sisters, Mona Finein of Webster, N.Y., and Patricia Roberts of Winter Springs, Fla. He was also the cherished grandfather of Gabriella Gray Guimaraes and Alexandra Gray Guimaraes. A memorial gathering will be held at Emeritus at Plymouth Beach Monday, July 14, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., followed by interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, at 2:45 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org, or the New York Public Library, www.nypl.org.
