Daniel J. Murphy Jr., of Randolph, passed away April 5, at the age of 90 years old. At the age of three, Dan moved to Randolph with his parents. During the depression, Dan did odd jobs to help out at home. He graduated from Stetson High School. Dan enlisted in the Army, infantry, and was schooled in radio communications. Dan served in the Philippines where he earned a Purple Heart. He worked 22 years as a correction officer for the state at the Norfolk Prison. After retiring from the prison he became a plumber, helping many of his friends and customers resolve their problems. For 40 years, Dan sold Christmas trees and donated 100% of the money to his favorite charity, the Jimmy Fund. In 1988, Dan received the Yawkey Memorial Award at Fenway Park for his outstanding service on behalf of the Jimmy Fund. Beloved husband of 60 years of the late Priscilla Murphy. Loving father of Jean Murphy of Randolph, Joan Adams of Taunton, Anna Roach of Randolph, John Murphy of Randolph, Patricia Dillon of Dartmouth, Mary Callahan of Braintree, and Daniel J. Murphy III of Plymouth. Devoted brother of George Murphy and the late Mary Slack and Anna Murphy. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral was from the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 So. Main St., (Rte. 28) Randolph, Wednesday, April 10, at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Marys Church, Randolph at 10 a.m. Visiting hours were on Tuesday, April 9, from 4 - 8 p.m. Interment MA National Cemetery, Bourne. Late US Army WWII Veteran.
