Joseph J. Joe Salmeri, of Randolph, formerly of the West End of Boston, passed away June 8, 2013 at the age of 79. Beloved husband of 45 years to Alta L. (McHoul) Salmeri. Born in Boston he grew up in the West End and was the son of the late Litterio and Clorinda (Avitabile) Salmeri. For the past 45 years he has lived in Randolph. Loving father of Joseph J. Salmeri Jr. and his wife Lisa of Pembroke and Jeffrey R. Salmeri and his wife Edita of Easton. Devoted brother of Anthony Salmeri and his wife Annette of Dracut, Leo Salmeri and his wife Judi of Weymouth, Albert Salmeri and his wife Catherine of Malden and the late Paul Salmeri and his late wife Rose. Dear grandfather of Joseph Antonio JT Salmeri. Brother-in-law of Louise McHoul of N. Quincy, Beverly Jordan and her husband Allen of Wollaston, and Jean Strachan and her husband Alexander of Abington. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe was retired from Verizon where he had worked as a central office equipment installer. He had worked there for 38 years retiring in 1996. He served in the US Army in the 1950s. Joe spent a great portion of his life guiding and helping the youth. He was very active in the Boy Scouts, especially Pack 36 and Troop 47, Randolph. He was awarded the highest honor as an adult leader by the Boy Scouts of America. A kind, gentle, humble person, he was a man of great faith who was always at the ready for anyone in need. He was a regular communicant of St. Mary Church, Randolph. At St. Mary Church he was a CCD Teacher, Confirmation Advisor, and Eucharistic Minister. He will be fondly remembered and missed as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother who touched the lives of all he met throughout his life. Reposed at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 N. Main St. (Rte. 28), Randolph until 9 a.m. Saturday, June 15, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church, Randolph. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours were Friday, June 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph.
