Obituary Condolences

Bruce D. Hayden of Raynham died Oct. 6, 2013, in Good Samaritan Medical Center, at the age of 72. Bruce was born in Brockton, son of the late Edith M. (Sharp) and Wesley T. Hayden and was raised and educated in Brockton, graduating from Brockton High School in 1959 and earned a bachelor's and master's degree from Northeastern Universiity in Electrical Engineering. Bruce was a licensed professional engineer in Rhode Island, and worked over 30 years for the Newport Electric Company that later became EUA in West Bridgewater retiring in 2000. Bruce was a Ham operator whose call sign was NI1X "The Bruce". He was the past president and a longtime member of the Whitman Armature Radio Club of which he wrote their news letter for many years. He was also a member of the Taunton and Massasiott Radio Club, the Taunton Area Emergency Management Association and the Newport Retirees Club. Bruce loved going to casinos, duck pin bowling was an avid skier and traveled through out the United States and enjoyed visiting over half our nations National Parks was a longtime member of the Brockton YMCA Fitness Class and completed the Bermuda and Newport, R.I., marathons but more than all this Bruce was a very kind, caring, generous, and gentle man. He was the brother of Jean Hayden-Knight and her husband Allan of Bridgewater and the late Susan D. Hayden and infant brother Wesley T. Hayden; cousin of William Hayden of Whitman, Martha Smith of Halifax, Douglas Sharp of Lakeville, Dorothy Tinkham Delo of Wis., and Mary Sherman of Pa.; dear friend of Edith Proffetty of Middleboro. Funeral services were held in the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater, Tuesday, Oct. 15, at noon. Visiting hours were Monday 4-8 p.m. Burial in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Donations may be made to the Support Group for Living with Pulmonary Fibrosis Brigham and Women's Hospital Carrie Hall, 15 Francis Street, Boston, MA 02115, or the Whitman Amature Radio Club, P.O.
