John W. Lewis Obituary
John W. Lewis, 91 of East Bridgewater, died at St. Joseph's Manor in Brockton on July 9, 2014. He was born in Abington, son of the late Leslie and Anna (Gallagher) Lewis and was raised and educated in Rockland. He was a 1941 graduate of Rockland High School. Mr. Lewis proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had been a longtime employee at Armstrong Cork Co. in Braintree before moving to Huntington Beach California in 1980. While there he worked for 22 years as a manager for Time Warner Cable. He returned to Massachusetts in 2002. Mr. Lewis was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling in several leagues at O'Lindy's Bowling Alleys. He was also a lover of thoroughbred horse racing. Husband of the late Cecilia S. (Carbajal) Lewis, he is survived by his children, Arthur T. Leon of Calif., William A. Lewis of Bridgewater, Kathleen M. Devin of East Bridgewater and Ann L. Hanlon of Quincy. He was the brother of Sally Brunke of Rockland, Robert and Willard Lewis of Fla. and the late Press, Joe, Eddie and Geraldine Lewis, Louise Weatherby and Pauline Ware.Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family welcomed friends and loved ones to celebrate his life on Monday, July 14, 2014 in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street, Rockland from 5 - 8 p.m. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Donations in his memory may be made to the activites fund of St. Joseph's Manor, 215 Thatcher St., Brockton, MA.
