Elizabeth A. Betty (OConnor) Smith, of Rockland, passed away on Dec. 6, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a very brief illness. She was born in Milleen, Kilcummin Killarney,County Kerry Ireland, daughter of the late James and Catherine (Corcoran) OConnor. She immigrated to the US at the age of 16. Betty had been employed at John Hancock in Boston where she met her husband Charlie Smith. She was a devoted wife of 42 years and a loving mother to her three children. She was an avid gardener and loved spending time and caring for her grandchildren. She was an active communicant of Holy Family Parish, and served as a Eucharistic Minister for over 40 years. In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Kevin Smith and his wife Miene of Norwell, Karen Duffey and her husband Scott of Rockland and Mary Donovan and her husband Stephen of So. Weymouth. She was the sister of John OConnor of Roslindale, Mary McSweeney and Donnie OConnor, both of Ireland. Also surviving are her grandchildren Kayla Chatfield, Tyler Smith, Kylie Smith, Emily Duffey and Tess Donovan. The family welcomed friends and loved ones to celebrate her life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013 from 4 - 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass was celebrated in Holy Family Church, 403 Union St., Rockland at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
