Frederick Wilkins, 77, late of Lynnfield, passed away Friday, March 29th, 2013, in Gloucester. A 1957 graduate of Bowdoin College, Wilkins earned his M.A. and PhD in English at the Univ. of Iowa. He served as an American literature Fulbright lecturer at the Univ. of Lodz, Poland, from 1967-1969. Wilkins taught in the English Dept. at Suffolk Univ. from 1969-2000, where he served as its chairman from 1978-1996. He founded the EUGENE O'NEILL NEWSLETTER and, subsequently, the EUGENE O'NEILL REVIEW while at Suffolk, where three international O'Neill conferences were held in 1984, 1986 and 1995. Fred's passing was preceded by that of his devoted partner of 33 years, Miroslaw (Mirek) Szejner, in 2000. Respected for his lively scholarship and love of literature by generations of students, Fred will be deeply missed by his friends and colleagues for his irrepressible good cheer, unstinting generosity and loyal friendship.
