Dorothy M. "Dottie" (DeYoung) Wenner devoted Mother, Friend and Organ Donor Advocate of Saugus died Tuesday, May 28, 2013 after a brief illness. Born in Melrose, she was the daughter of the late Zebe and Esther DeYoung. She was the beloved wife of the late Lee B. Wenner. Before retiring, Dottie was a bookkeeper and Certified Public Housing Manager for the Saugus Housing Authority. Despite being a non-smoker, Dottie was a lung transplant recipient, defying odds for more than ten years. Upon receiving her new lung and second chance at life, she was determined to not just be a survivor, but to live life to the fullest for as long as she could. Dottie was a staunch organ donor advocate who also belonged to a lung transplant support group (Second Wind), helping others impacted by similar circumstances. She leaves her children, John Brown of Chelsea, Timothy Brown and Fianc Kelly Clark of Saugus, Cheryl Brown of Illinois and Deidre Brown of Florida, Stepchildren David Wenner and wife Deborah of New Jersey, Robert Wenner and companion Lisa Foster of Melrose, Mark Wenner and wife Barbara of Framingham, Judith (Wenner) Chory and husband Michael of Bradford and the late Bruce Wenner of South Carolina. She also leaves 19 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. At the request of Dottie, there will be no wake of funeral service, but instead, a Celebration of Life Service will be announced on her Facebook and held at a later date; and that in lieu of flowers or other gifts sent to the family, donations should be made to Brigham & Women's Hospital, Lung Transplant Unit, 75 Francis Street, Boston, MA 02115.
