Obituary Condolences

ORourke, Mary E. 68, of Manhattan, formerly of Scituate MA, passed away on April 12, after a short illness. Mary is survived by two children, Jennifer OConnor-Parmelee and her husband Craig Parmelee of Eastchester, NY; Ted OConnor and his partner Mary Amanda Reinauer of Washington DC; and two grandchildren, Maeve Parmelee and Matthew Parmelee. Ms. ORourke was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier High School in Brooklyn, NY, University of Massachusetts at Boston and Boston College from which she earned her PhD in educational psychology in 1982. In the 1970s and 80s, Mary played an instrumental role in implementing the adoption of Open Education curricula and goals into the Scituate Public Schools. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and was very active in local and state politics in Massachusetts. Before returning to her New York City roots in 1997, Mary worked in property management for The Corcoran Management Company, The New England and Met Life. Mary retired from Fitch Ratings as a Senior Director in 2010. A private memorial service was held in Manhattan. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Mary can be made in her name to City Harvest, the ACLU and Southern Poverty Law Center.
