John Joseph Melanson, age 77, died Friday, April 20, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Somerville, MA August 14, 1934 and has lived in Sharon, MA for the last 45 years. John worked as a carpenter for Union Local 535 until his retirement in 1997. He also worked for the Sharon Special Police from 1984 to 1992. John served in the Army and was given an award for physical fitness in his battalion. He coached little league baseball when his children were growing up and pitched for a local championship softball team himself. He loved spending time with his friends and colleagues at Charlie's Deli and was an active member of the Sharon Fish & Game Club at which he was awarded the 2008 and 2010 Sportsman of the Year for his dedication, loyalty and unselfish acts. John enjoyed spending time painting, fishing, cooking for his friends and family and helping everyone with their home improvement projects. He loved life and always had a joke ready for any audience. John was always available to listen to a friend in need and offer "pearls of wisdom". John was the son of John and Pauline (Gaudet) Melanson and beloved husband of Maxine (Nielson) Melanson. Loving father of Kathleen and her husband John McKenna of Foxborough, Christine and her husband Robert McCormack of Foxborough, Steven and his wife LeaAnn of Bridgewater and John and his wife Katherine of Sharon. Devoted grandfather of Christopher, Kaitlyn, Bo, Ryan, Quinn, Jacqueline and Jillian. John is the brother of the late Frank Melanson, Theresa (Melanson) Griffin and James Melanson and also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, April 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxborough. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 am at St. Mary's Church, 58 Carpenter Street, Foxborough. Interment to follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Sharon.
