Justine Swaim Obituary

Justine Anastasia (Bouldin) Swaim, 43, died peacefully at home Thursday February 17, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She and her husband, Jeffrey E. Swaim, an attorney at Mirick, OConnell, DeMallie & Lougee, LLP, have lived in Shrewsbury for the past 15 years. Justine was born August 21, 1967 in Houston, TX, the daughter of Dennis and Elizabeth (Fischer) Bouldin. She grew up in Essex Jct., VT and graduated from the Essex Junction high school in 1985. She earned a BA in 1989 from Colgate University and an MBA in 1995 from Boston University School of Management. After graduating from Colgate, Justine moved to Massachusetts where she had positions in Boston with the American Express Shareholder Services Group and the Prudential Insurance Company and in Worcester in marketing communications for UMASS Memorial Health Care. After the birth of her first child, she worked part-time at Visions Learning Center in Shrewsbury and occasionally reviewed childrens books for Kirkus Reviews. Justines most intense passion was being a devoted and loving mother to her three wonderful children, Katherine, Laura and Matthew. She also enjoyed reading, travelling, music, writing, taking pictures, biking, school and community affairs and spending time with her family and friends. Throughout her life, Justines warmth and sense of humor created close and lasting bonds. In addition to her husband, children and parents, Justine is survived by her brother Graham Bouldin of Portland,OR, and his family; and her grandmother, Mary Ann Evans of Essex Jct., VT. The family would like to express their appreciation to her many friends, the UMASS Memorial Hospice team, and Justines personal caregivers, especially Lenna Brantley and Neiares Mulcahey, who did so much for Justine and her family during her illness. A memorial service will be held Saturday March 5, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, 19 Church Rd., Shrewsbury, MA 01545. Justine will be missed by all who knew her, and she will never be forgotten. She will always be "Stacy" to me, as I met her first in 5th grade, graduated with her from high school, and we both went on to Colgate. The times she made me laugh with her humor and wit are immeasurable. I feel privileged to have known her. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Dear Jeff and family,

I was sad to read this news. Before I left I was able to have a brief visit with Justine and it will be those times that I will remember. She was a courageous soul and you took such wonderful care of her, giving her the ability to remain in her home with her family. I am sure that now she is at real peace and hope that memories of happy times will help you and the children through the coming weeks. I feel priviledged to have been a part of your lives and thank you for that. I will hold dear in my memory Justine's beautiful smile and kind sense of humor.

To Justine's Family,
Please accept my sincerest sympathies on the passing of a "beautiful spirit". I just saw you briefly at our new location and was so happy! I am so saddened by Justine's passing, but grateful that she now looks over and cares once again for her loved ones as you have so lovingly for her through everything. She does it from afar, yet so near. God bless you Justine, that quiet smiling face you always graced me with. Rest in eternal Peace and may God bless all your loved ones in their time of grief and may memories of smiling and laughter fill their hearts and help their healing.
