Edward (Mr. Ed) Beaton Sr. of Somerville passed away peacefully on Sunday February 23, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Jeannette (Hewett) and John H. Beaton Sr. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janice (Snyder) and their 5 children. Theresa McLain and her husband Thomas of Somerville, the late Walter Rowan, Janice Poirier of Somerville and her husband Ronald, Debra Joyce and her husband Martin of Franklin, and Edward Beaton Jr. and his wife Laura of Somerville, and his sister Margaret Buchanan and her husband Don of Delaware. He was the brother of the late Thelma Midget, John H. George and Richard Beaton. He was also the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His nine year battle with cancer was a courageous one. He never gave up, never complained and most of all stayed strong for those around him. He always kept a cheerful outlook on life. Ed was passionate, a man who enjoyed fishing, playing basketball, Elvis, Karaoke, and most of all spending time with family and friends. He was a longtime fan of the Boston Celtics. Before his illness he loved gardening, decorating his house for the holidays especially Christmas and playing basketball. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00PM in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powerhouse Square), Somerville on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home, on Thursday February 27, 2014 at 11 AM, followed by burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
