Gino M. DeSimone, a longtime resident of Chelsea, passed away suddenly, at his home on Tuesday, April 2nd. Gino was born and raised in Somerville. At an early age he displayed a natural talent for art, and after completing his education, he attended the Donald Lacedra School of Art in Boston where he studied landscape painting and life drawing. In addition, he was a skilled muralist, and between his paintings and murals, his artwork has been seen in 100's of Boston area restaurants. He later himself became a Life drawing instructor at the Boston Copley Society, and also taught art in the Boston School system. Gino had a great love of nature, which reflected in many of his landscape works. In addition, Gino was skilled in carpentry work, and would often help friends and family with projects. Gino leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Alice (Powers) DeSimone, his stepchildren, William Gillis of CA, Carla Nastri of NH, Stephanie Nastri-Davis of Medford, his sister, Ida M. DeSimone of Somerville, his brothers, Emilio F. DeSimone of CA, Leo G. DeSimone Sr. and wife Linda of Somerville, as well as many caring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rocco and Emilia (Russo) DeSimone, his step son Nicholas Gillis, and his brothers, Anthony, Rocco Jr, and Americo. Funeral services will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Saturday, April 6th, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main St, Malden, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 5th, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. Committal services will be private.
