1932-2013 - Rita Mae Goss, 80, longtime Somerville resident, died of respiratory failure after a short illness at Kingston Hospital, Kingston, NY January 23, 2013. She was born in Augusta, Maine, March 10, 1932, to Roy Goss and Rachel Ramona Carter of Maine and resided at the Golden Hill Health Care Center in Kingston, NY at the time of her death, having been transferred there from the Neville Center at Fresh Pond, Cambridge last fall to be close to relatives. Rita was a 1950 graduate of Cony High School in Augusta and received her training as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Winthrop Community Hospital, Winthrop, MA in 1959. She was employed as an LPN at Somerville Hospital until her retirement for health reasons in 1976. Rita lived for many years prior to requiring nursing home care at the Myrtle Street Somerville Housing Authority apartments, where she was known by her many friends for her outgoing, cheerful personality and Maine humor. Her body was cremated in Kingston and her ashes were interred in the family burial plot in Mount Hope cemetery in Augusta, ME.
