James E. Jake Hoffman, 21, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, in Amherst, after being caught in a house fire. He was the beloved son of David M. and Anne (Morrissey) Hoffman of Stoughton. Born in Stoughton, he was raised and educated in Stoughton and was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 2009. While at Stoughton High, he was a member of the soccer team and was elected captain his senior year. He was a senior at UMass-Amherst at the time of his death. While at UMass, he was a member of MESIBA Team, the Club Managers Association of America and was the vice president of the Jewish Student Union. An avid sports fan, he was a kind and caring man who in his free time, enjoyed fundraising for different foundations and donating his time to anyone who needed it. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Nichole C. Hoffman; and his brother, Riordan J. A. Hoffman, both of Stoughton. He was the grandson of Dorothy (Hannaway) Hoffman of Stoughton and the late Edward Hoffman, James J. Morrissey and Bernice (Hill) Morrissey. He was the great-grandson of Edward C. Hoffman of Canton. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral Mass was held in the St. James Church, 560 Page St., Stoughton, Saturday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours were held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27), Stoughton, Friday from 3-7 p.m. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
