Joseph D. Burkard, 79, of Brockton, died Aug. 10, 2014 with family by his side. Native of Randolph, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed as plant superintendent for Randy Boat Shoe from 1954 to 1978 then as warehouse manager for Spector Shoe and AquaLeisure. He also sold real estate for Jim Lucier Realty in Holbrook and was a vendor at area flea markets. Joe enjoyed coaching Brookfield Little League, sports, walking, the dog track, casinos, family and friends. He was the husband of the late Anne M. (Grasso) Burkard; beloved father of Joseph D. Burkard Jr., Dawn Mills and her husband Russell and David A. Burkard, all of Brockton; and the loving Papa of Kristin Rene Burkard of R.I. and Megan J. Mills of N.Y. All were welcome to a calling hour Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 10 -11 a.m. and an 11 a.m. prayer service in Waitt Funeral Chapel at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton and burial at Calvary Cemetery.
