Obituary Condolences

Ree McMurtry, 93, passed away peacefully in Phoenix, Arizona, where she lived for the past four years, on August 15, 2014. She was born in Framingham, Massachusetts on April 14, 1921, and spent her life in Sudbury before retiring to Sandwich in 1980. During World War II she served with the U.S. Navy as a Radio Specialist, during which time she made lifelong friendships with other WAVES. She was an accomplished florist, and served the people of Sudbury with her husband Harold from Harold & Rees Flower Shop for over 30 years. After moving to Sandwich, she exercised her passions of playing golf and bridge, cooking fish chowder and baking blueberry muffins for family and friends over three decades. She was a Regional Life Member of the ACBL, served as a volunteer for Sandwich Glass Museum for many years, and traveled the world, visiting friends and family in far off places, including Bahrain, where her daughter and family lived during the 1990s. Ree was well known and loved for her warm heart, hospitality, and great love & interest in others. Ree was preceded in death by her husband Harold, and is survived by her daughter, Pamela Ryan (Ed) of Phoenix, Arizona, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held in Phoenix; donations may be made in Rees name to the Sandwich Glass Museum, P.O. Box 103, Sandwich, MA 02563.
