Mr. Chester Soltis 75, of Flagler Beach, FL, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Dernulc) Soltis, died Sunday, October 21st, 2012 at his son's home in Topsfield, Massachusetts. Born and raised in Hammond, Indiana, he was the son of the late Andrew and Maria (Jasek) Soltis. Chester was educated at St. Andrew's Elementary School and Hammond Technical High School. Chester was a long time Steelworker with LTV Steel of Indiana Harbor, Indiana. Chet also worked part-time at Marusczak's Deli in Hammond, Indiana for many years. A long time member of the United Steelworkers Union, Local 1011, Chester was dedicated to his family, profession and co-workers. In retirement, Chet, moved to Flagler Beach, Florida and will be sorely missed by the many friends he made while residing there. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, #2709 in Palm Coast, FL and Loyal Order of Moose, #2577 in Palm Coast, FL. A devoted Catholic, Chet was a long-time parishioner of St. John Bosco Church in Hammond, IN and most recently attended Mass at St. Mary's Church in Korona, FL. A man of many talents, Chester was an exceptional wood-worker. His furniture and varied creations will be treasured by all those fortunate enough to possess them. Chet sang with the choir at St. John Bosco and was a valued performer in the Octoberfest celebrations held there. Chet was also an avid crossword puzzle aficionado and usually finished ones that family members were unable to complete. Chet loved to entertain and cook for family and friends. His innovations in the kitchen inspired and pleased friends and family alike. An exceptional problem-solver, Chet was long on service, whether volunteering at the Flagler Auditorium, assisting friends or family on projects, or traveling far afield to find a rare condiment for a friend. Chet loved to travel with friends and spoke longingly about his trips around the United States, Australia and Europe. His children will forever cherish the fishing and camping trips shared together. Chester is survived by his daughter, Christina Dolan and her husband Thomas, of Winter Park, FL, sons, Anthony Soltis and wife Cecilia of Topsfield, MA, and Matthew Soltis and his partner Tina Richter of Scottsdale, AZ, grandchildren Ashley, Cara and Ethan Soltis, Caelen Soltis, and Shawn and Ryan Dolan and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late David Solltis and brother of the late John, Andrew, Walter, Casimir, Edward and Joseph Szymoniak and Mary Moulesong. ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass which will be held in the St. Mary's Church, Korona, FL on Monday, November 5th at 10:30 a.m. A cotillion will be held in his honor at the Elks Post #2709 in Palm Coast, FL on Sunday, November 4 at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Chester's memory to Rush University, Office of Philanthropy, 1700 West Van Buren, Chicago, IL. 60612-3244.
