James F. Moroney Obituary
James Francis Moroney, 87, of Mashpee, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen Barbara Moroney and the son of the late James and Mary Moroney. Jim grew up in Boston. He was a double eagle, graduating from Boston College High School and earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College. Jim was a first Lieutenant in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. He was wounded at Outpost Harry, and was awarded a Purple Heart for his actions. Jim worked as a systems analyst for Liberty Mutual until his retirement. Jim enjoyed sports marksmanship and was a member of the Sharon Fish and Game Club and the Monument Beach Sportsman Club. He enjoyed organic gardening and carpentry. He was an avid reader, and particularly enjoyed history. Jim was also a volunteer at the Mashpee Archives. Jim was a member of Christ the King Parish in Mashpee. Most of all Jim enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving husband to his wife of 63 years, Helen Barbara Moroney, and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. James is survived by 4 daughters, Barbara Houlihan and hus- band John of Wells, ME, Kathleen Miller and husband James of Greenwich, CT, Jane Wallace and husband Mark of Prevessin, France, Patricia Lewitt and husband Michael of Brook- line, MA. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Alex, Megan, Elizabeth, CJ, John, Michael, Nick, and Jack, as well as 5 great grandchildren: Victor, Elodie, Eva, Liam, and Finn. A visitation will be held at the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home 74 Algonquin Ave. (Rte 151) Mashpee on Friday August 10, 2018 from 9:00am to 10:30am. A funeral Mass will follow at Chris the King Church 3 Jobs Fishing Rd. Mashpee at 11:00am. Burial will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at a later date.
