Donald G. Roberts, age 80, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at his home. Born June 23, 1933 to George E. and Madeline "Cassie" (Hoyt) Roberts of East Walpole, Don was a loving husband, father, and friend. He was also a United States veteran of the Korean Conflict. After many years as a construction contractor, he retired as the owner of a local shoe repair business. Don was very active in his community, supported Scouting, and a proud member and example of Rotary International. Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joanne; 4 children: George Alan & wife Tammy Roberts, Norman Edward Roberts, Cheryl Jean & husband Bill Kuhn, Gregory Vincent & wife DeeAnn Roberts; his brother, Norman "Buddy" Roberts; grandchildren: Charles, John, David, Tara, Kayla, Gobi, Desi and 5 great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his sister Janice DeLutis, daughter-in-law Kathryn (wife of Norman), and grandson Michael Kuhn. Over the years Donald kept close ties with Brazilian students from Rotary Foreign Student Exchange: Kennedy, Harley, Louis, and Gisele; whom he welcomed into his home and family. From a friend: "Some men like to read... Don distributed thousands of dictionaries for children to learn to read. Some men like to cook... Don cooked meals for hundreds of victims of natural disasters in the area. Some men like woodworking... Don built an entire Park with benches, paths, pavilions, and a playground for his community. Some men hope to do great things... Don just did them naturally. Don was a member of the Edgewater Rotary Club and donated countless hours to the betterment of his fellow man; he will be truly missed."
