Eleanor Sadler Obituary
Eleanor (Hanley) Sadler passed away peacefully at the age of 98 in Plymouth, Massachusetts on May 27, 2018. She was born in Medford on March 25, 1920, to Thomas and Lillian Hanley. Eleanor was a long-time resident of Watertown. She married Russell Sadler on Christmas Day in 1941, shortly before he was deployed to the South Pacific. She was the loving mother of Sue Luce of South Weymouth, Sally Riley and her husband Charles of Houston, Texas, the late Russell Sadler, and his wife Sheila of Manomet, and Mary Jane Sadler and her wife Laurie Smith of Watertown. She had seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Eleanor was a lover of arts, in all forms. There were few classics that she had not read and very few topics on which she had trouble conversing, or preferably, debating. She was also a life-long advocate and supporter of the Catholic Sisterhood. Upon her retirement she spent numerous hours supporting political campaigns and volunteering at various charitable organizations and at the Watertown Library. She will be remembered for her generous nature, love of storytelling, wonderful cooking, and wicked sense of humor. She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Russell Sadler, three beloved sisters Claire Gregory, Barbara Donnelly, Marilyn Hanley, and son Russell Sadler. She is survived by Sue Luce, Sally and Charles Riley, Sheila Sadler, Mary Jane Sadler, Laurie Smith, Casey Luce, Kristen Luce, Brad and Lisa Riley, Todd and Sarah Sadler, Lindsay Riley, Brett Sadler, Ashley Sadler, her nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and loving friend Robin Richmond. The funeral will take place on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St. Plymouth at 10:45 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial in St. Peters Church, 84 Court St., Plymouth at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Cartmell Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Eleanor will then be laid to rest next to her husband, Russell, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date.
