John "Jack" Gardiner passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late John and Adelaide Gardiner. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Claire (LeMay) of Belmont, his children, Edward of Belmont, Paul of Arlington, Rich and his wife Beth of Cotuit and their four sons, his adoring grandsons, John, Christian, Shane and Ryan. He was predeceased by his brother Bobby Gardiner and his wife Rita of Belmont. He is also survived by his sister Dolores Keefe and husband Roy of Belmont, brother Kenny and wife Judy of Falmouth, eleven nephews, six nieces and countless friends and colleagues. Jack was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His favorite times were those spent with his family, especially his grandsons who referred to him lovingly as Papa. Jack was a lifelong resident of Belmont. He received his Bachelor's in Business from Suffolk University and his Master's in Education from Boston State. He was a well loved teacher at Watertown High School for over 30 years where he also coached football and hockey. He was caring and compassionate to his students and players and took great pride in helping them achieve their goals. His love of both football and hockey led him to pursue his other career in professional scouting. He became a scout for the USFL, scouting local New England talent for the Arizona Wranglers. His greatest passion was the game of hockey. Jack was employed as a professional National Hockey League scout for over 33 years where he was considered a legendary evaluator of talent. He began his NHL career with the Central Scouting Bureau before moving on to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the St. Louis Blues and until his passing, the San Jose Sharks. He valued and admired all those he was fortunate enough to work with in the hockey world. He will be greatly missed by all. Services will be private.
