Moira Ann Murphy Ph.D, died of lymphoma in Houston, Texas on March 18, 2013. She was 49. She leaves four children, Stephan Aguilar, 24, Johan Aguilar, 21, Amirah Orozco, 15, a nd Ariana Orozco, 14. She is survived by her brother, Stephen Nagle Murphy of Fairfield, California, his wife, Nichole Costo Murphy, her father Rober t Leo Murphy o Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, his wife, Miriam Elliot Murphy, her six step siblings, her aunt, Rita Van Gamert formerly of West oxbury, Massachusetts, and her uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. Stephen F. Bowen , Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri. Moira received a doctorate in Latin American Studies from the University of New Mexico, a masters degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy , and a bachelor's degree from Brown University (cum laude). She was a Fulbright Scholar in Mexico in 1996 and a Rotary Fellow in Peru in 1986. She graduated from the insor School in Boston in 1981. She taught for over a decade at the Tec de Monterey in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, where she won several distinguished professor awards. She taught her last years at the University of Texas, El Paso, and published numerous books and articles on border trade and human rights.. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Bowen Murphy , and her mother, Nancy Bowen Murphy. Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 477 Washington St. (RT. 16) Y, Friday at 10:30 AM. Funeral mass in St . John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley Hills, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours prior to the funeral mass 9 to 10:30 AM in the funera l home. Interment in St. John Cemetery, Worchester.
