She was born in Lynchburg, VA and was a graduate of Randolph Macon Womans College and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Her graduate work in art at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia twice won her awards to study in Europe. She became head of the Art Department at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia and pursued a career primarily in portraiture but also produced many landscapes in oil and watercolor and illustrations in pen and ink. She studied at Harvard on a Carnegie Fellowship. Her works are in many private and public collections. Wife of the late Dr. Otto E. Aufranc, an orthopedic surgeon known for his innovative techniques and contributions in hip surgery. Mother of Dr. St. George Tucker Aufranc and the late Otto William Randolph Aufranc. Grandmother of Lisa Wescott Sharples, Dr. St. George Tucker Aufranc II and Kaarina Elizabeth Aufranc. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren. Daughter of the late Professor B. W. After moving to North Hill in Needham in her early 90s she stayed busy writing and illustrating articles for the North Hill News and read at least a book a day. She had a flair for a good story and relished her southern heritage as only a Virginian can. Services are private. A celebration of her life, open to family and friends, will be held at the Wellesley Country Club, 300 Wellesley Ave., Wellesley Thurs. May 19 at 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Randy may be made to the Wellesley Free Library, 530 Washington St., Wellesley MA 02482 or online www.wellesleyfreelibrary.org
