Ruth Bowie Turner 85, of 4662 Irish Road, Chatham, VA., passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 at her residence. She was born March 18, 1928 in Boston, MA to the late Sylvia Davis Bowie Hazen and the late Raymond Bowie, Sr. She was married on July 5, 1946 to John David Turner, Sr. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2004. Mrs. Turner moved to Pittsylvania County from Boston in 1984. She was the owner of Fun For All Day Nursery for over 25 years. She was an avid gardener, artist, and crafter, and was very active in volunteer work at Roman Eagle and Piney Forest nursing homes. Mrs. Turner was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters: Nancy Salter and husband William, of Danville, VA, Linda Jones and husband Jerry, of Chatham, VA, and Janice McKenna and husband Paul, of Callands, VA; two sons: John David Turner, Jr. of Kentucky, and Steven Harold Turner of North Carolina; as well as ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her brother Raymond Bowie, Jr. A memorial service was held 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville with Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. A private interment will be held at Highland Burial Park at a later date.
