Emily Pettit Sullivan, 85, died peacefully and comfortably surrounded by her family at her Wayland residence on Wednesday morning, August 20, 2014. She was born on May 24, 1929 in Jamaica, New York the daughter of the late Stephen H. Pettit and Cecilia A. (Hubel) Pettit. Emily was the beloved wife of the late William H. Sullivan, Jr. who died on January 13, 2004. She was the devoted mother of Elizabeth A. Sullivan and her husband George B. Trammell, III of Chadds Ford, PA; Ann C. Sullivan and her fiance Joseph R. Mailliard of Becket and the late William H. Billy Sullivan, III who died on June 2, 2003. Loving grandmother of Emily Limaye and her husband Dustin Briggs of San Gabriel, CA; Elizabeth Limaye of Media, PA and George B. Trammell, IV and his wife Janet Trammell of Thousand Oaks, CA. Cherished great-grandmother of Noah H. Trammell. Mother-in-law of Ellen S. Sullivan of Franklin. Sister of Joyce Roche of Harwich and Cora Martin of Wilton, CT. Emily has been a resident of Wayland for over 56 years. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Trinity College in Washington, DC. For several years she was a teacher with the Andover School System. She was an active communicant of St. Anns Parish and also taught CCD at the church. She devoted many hours as a volunteer and guide for the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She and her late husband William were one of the original founders of the Wayland Swim and Tennis Club. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and will be greatly missed by all the lives that she touched. Visitations will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:15 am in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Anns Church, 124 Cochituate Road (Rte 27), Wayland. Her Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:30 am at the church. Private family interment will be held in the Sullivan family lot in North Cemetery in Wayland. In lieu of flowers her family suggests that memorial gifts in Emilys memory may be sent to Childrens Hospital, 300 Longwood Avenue, Boston, MA 02115 and would be greatly appreciated.
