Stephen H. Crandall, MIT professor of mechanical engineering, resident of Lincoln, and Concord, died October 29, 2013 at the age of 92.

Stephen H. Crandall, Ford Professor of Engineering Emeritus at MIT, and a leader in transforming mechanics into an engineering science, is remembered for his pioneering work in the field of solid mechanics and random vibrations, and for the kindness he showed to students, colleagues, family and friends.
Stephen Crandall is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jane (Crandall) Kontrimas and Peter Kontrimas, his son, William BC Crandall, and his grandson, Stephen Kontrimas.
A memorial service will be held at the MIT Chapel, Friday, February 21, 2014 at 3pm.
