Edward Coleran Obituary

Edward J. Coleran Sr. of Weymouth, entered into eternal life April 7, 2014, at the age of 87, after a period of declining health. Born, raised and educated in Weymouth, he was the son of the late M. Joseph Coleran and Mabelle (Linscott) Coleran. A proud Navy veteran of World War II, he served aboard the destroyer John R. Craig. After serving his country he worked at Quincy Shipyard and then for the Weymouth School Department for 36 years until he retired in 1990. He was a former member of Rockland Golf Course where, after retirement, he played golf three days a week. In addition to golfing, Eddie enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod, woodworking, lamp-making, repairing anything that was broken. He was well-known to family and friends for his ability to fix anything. As a devoted Catholic, he firmly believed in the power of prayer. He was a loyal parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in East Weymouth. He was the beloved husband of Jean (Barker) Coleran of Hingham and the late Irene (Henry) Coleran; father of Edward Coleran Jr. and Patricia Coleran of Weymouth and the late Robert Coleran. He was the grandfather of Ted Coleran of Whitman, Kara Hamilton of Indiana, Sean Coleran of Pembroke and Courtney Coleran of Weymouth. He had 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also survived by stepchildren, Janice Sullivan of Kingston, Karen Crowley of Duxbury, Pamela Johnson of Hingham and John Barker of Needham and their families. He was the brother of the late Mary Regan, Virginia Dunn and Joseph Coleran. Eddies family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff at Pope Nursing Home and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care and support during his illness. Visiting hours Thursday, April 10, 4-8 p.m. in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, at 809 Main Street (Rte. 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital), South Weymouth. Relatives and friends gathered in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday prior to the funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth, at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.
