Blanche L. Rossi Obituary
Blanche L. (Maher) Rossi, 92, of Quincy, formerly of Charlestown, died November 2, 2017. She was the loving wife of the late Generoso "Gene" P. Rossi who died in 1980. Born and raised in Charlestown, she was the eldest of three children born to the late Robert A. and Lillian B. (McGrath) Maher. A 1943 graduate of Charlestown High School, she furthered her studies at UMass-Boston, earning a certificate in Gerontology. During World War II, Mrs. Rossi worked as a welder at the Charlestown Navy Yard. She also worked for many years as an office manager with the former Old Mr. Boston distillery and later worked in the financial services sector with the Boston Company before finally retiring in the early 1990s. Mrs. Rossi enjoyed reading and was truly a world traveler, having visited all 50 states and every continent except Antarctica. She was a longtime, active member of First Baptist Church of Wollaston and was a former member of the International Red Hat Society and the Quincy Citizens Police Academy. She was the dear sister of Robert J. Maher of Milford and Ellen M. Canty of Quincy; cherished aunt of Blanche E. Yanovich of Quincy; and great-aunt of Jacob and Lucas Yanovich of Quincy. Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited, will be held Monday Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Wollaston, 81 Prospect Ave., Wollaston. Interment to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Visiting hours Sunday Nov. 5 from 4-7 p.m. at Hamel Funeral Care & Cremation Service of Massachusetts, 26 Adams St., Quincy Center.
