Richard G. Sherman Obituary
Richard Graham Sherman, of Quincy, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 after a long illness. Richard is the beloved husband of Marsha Sherman (Peoples) of Quincy, father of Richard and Mimi of Troutman, North Carolina; Alexandra and John Leitaker of Sacramento, California; Maureen of Nashua New Hampshire; Kent and Julie of Sterling, Alaska; 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; step-dad to Janette Archer of Phoenix, Arizona and Holly Archer of Boulder, Colorado. Richard was the only child born to the late Marion (Graham) and Raymond Sherman. Richard was born in Schenectady, New York in 1931. He graduated from the University of Colorado, and was in the military during the Korean War. Stationed in Alaska, he subsequently settled there. He was employed as a surveyor and later as Chief Geologist for the Highway Department in Alaska. After the 1964 Alaska Earthquake he was recruited by a local firm and moved to the Boston area where he was employed for many years by Metcalf and Eddy Engineers, retiring in 2004 from his position as Chief of the Geotechnical Department. He was active in his professional organizations, and took great pride in his many accomplishments. After his retirement he enjoyed travelling to visit his family and visiting new places. He enjoyed being outdoors, camping and hiking. He loved music and dance, he liked to putter around the house, dig in the garden and play with his cat.
