Joseph E. "Sonny" Harrington Jr., of South Weymouth, passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2011 at Kindred Hospital in Tampa, Fla., at the age of 73. Born in Boston, Joseph was a longtime resident of South Weymouth and recently resided in Naples, Fla., He joined the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades in 1967. He became Business Agent for District Council #35 of the IBPAT from 1977 through 1979. Joseph was also Secretary -Treasurer of Local #655 in Hyde Park, MA for many years. He retired in 2007 as a Lifelong Member. During the late 1980's, he purchased a parcel of land in Naples, Fla. and through the early 2000's he built and sold roughly 23 single family houses, retaining the last one built for himself and his family. Upon completion, he retired to Naples. Mr. Harrington is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susetta "Sue" (Fetcher) Harrington; three sons, Joseph W. Harrington (Barbara), of Weymouth, Jeffrey Harrington (Michele), of Weymouth and Jon Harrington (Luisa), of Weymouth; a daughter, Eileen Gonzalez (Michael), of Whitman; two brothers, James Harrington (Peggy), of Dorchester and Francis Harrington (AnnMarie), of Hyde Park; a sister, Roseanne Comeau, of Arizona. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, who will miss their Papa terribly; Nicole, Joseph, Adam, Amanda, Emily, Sarah, Matthew, Jared, Athena, Sabina, Taliana, Signey and Juan. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 at Saint Francis Xavier Church in South Weymouth, MA.
