Robert W. Britton of Naples, Florida and York Harbor, Maine, beloved husband of the late Eleanor Britton, and loving father died peacefully at his home on March 20, 2014 surrounded by his family. Born August 3, 1924 to Mary T. and William L. Britton he grew up in Medford, MA, joined the Navy and served during World War II aboard the USS LST-287. After the war he returned home to York Harbor where he met his bride. Bob and Ellie raised their three children in Winchester, MA as he rose to the ranks of Vice President of International Operations at Gillette. Their devoted children Dr. Linda Britton of Atlanta, Gail Britton of New York City and York Harbor, and William (Bill) Britton of York will miss them both beyond words. Bob and Eleanor traveled extensively. They were avid tennis players together and Bob an avid golfer, giving Ellie her much needed respite. He loved Naples FL, where they spent winter months, and York Harbor most of all. Bob's mother bought a home in York in the 1930's and one of his first jobs as a teen was working in the Lancaster Theatre. In addition to his children, Bob leaves five adoring grandchildren Zachary Knight, Adam and Robbie Baker, Jackson and Chloe Britton; a daughter-in -law Dede Britton; and two sons- in-law Peter Knight and Patrick Baker. His granddaughter, Bonnie, who was the light of his life, died in 1998. Those who knew Bob will miss his dry sense of humor and his cryptic one-liners, his work ethic and commitment to family. A graveside service for Bob will be held for family later in the spring. We want to take this opportunity to thank Bob's wonderful caregivers who have been inspirational in their devotion to Bob and the family over the past several months. We are forever grateful.
