Obituary Condolences

George J. Govostes, age 77, a lifelong resident of Winchester, died on September 9, 2013 after an extended illness. He was the son of George and Ethel (ODonnell) Govostes. He is survived by his longtime friend and caregiver Bruce Connelly and his brother David P. Govostes of Lowell and sister in laws Margaret (McHugh) Govostes of Winchester and Carol (Gallagher) Govostes of Hudson, NH. His brothers, Charles F. Govostes, John P. Govostes and Bruce M. Govostes, predecease him. Legally blind since the age of five, George went on to earn a B.S. and M. Ed. from Boston University in Speech Pathology. He practiced his profession working with developmentally delayed children at the W.E. Fernald State School and later in various programs for the Massachusetts Department of Education. He enjoyed time in his garden at his summer home in Green Harbor, MA. A good cook and avid antique collector, he was a man of amazing memory and sharp wit, who overcame many obstacles in life. A Funeral was held from the Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main St. Winchester on Friday, September 13, 2013 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Marys Church, 158 Washington St. Winchester.
