Robert Campbell Obituary

Robert L. Campbell 84, of Franklin, died peacefully, Wednesday June 13, 2012 at the Maples Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wrentham, following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Marie T. (Geraghty) Campbell. Born June 26, 1927 in Norfolk, a son of the late Harold E. and Loretta (Cullen) Campbell, he was raised and educated in Norfolk, and was a graduate of Walpole High School. In October of 1945, he entered the United States Army during World War II. He attained the rank of T/4 and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in December of 1946. Upon returning home, he began his career in law enforcement, he worked for the Town of Norfolk as a Sergeant for the police department for 12 years and in 1968 he became Deputy Superintendent and was stationed at the house of correction in Dedham, while working for the Norfolk County Sheriff's Department and he retired as Special Sheriff in 1996. He treasured time spent with his family and was a former Bail Commissioner, a Selective Service member, a Life Member of the American Legion, a member of the Blue Knights, the National Sheriff's Association and a member of the Norfolk County Retired Municipal State Employees Association and the Society in Dedham for the Apprehension of Horse Thieves. In addition to his wife of 49 years he is survived by a son Kevin M. Campbell of Dedham, 3 daughters; Loretta H. Arnaudo of Franklin, Sandra J. Sarkissian of Waltham and Catherine M. Wiggin of Plymouth, a brother Harold E. Campbell Jr. of Arizona. He was the brother of the late Albert Campbell, Ruth McCarthy, Dorothy Campbell and Lois Potter. Also surviving are his 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Saturday June 16th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, www.oterifuneralhome.com, with a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church 1 Church Sq. at 10AM. Interment will follow at Norfolk Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday June 15th from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory sent to St. Vincent DePaul Society c/o St. Mary's Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin, MA 02038.
